Crop Report: September 4

🌾Saskatchewan Crop Report

Dry weather allowed strong progress last week. 23% of crops are harvested, up from 11% the week before but still behind the five-year average of 40%. The southwest leads at 39%, followed by the southeast (33%). East-central is 16%, northeast 13%, northwest 12%, and west-central 10%.

Most winter cereals are nearly complete (91% winter wheat, 88% fall rye). Pulses are well advanced with 73% of peas and 60% of lentils combined. Spring cereals are underway—61% triticale, 34% barley, 30% durum, 17% oats, and 14% spring wheat. Oilseeds are just beginning with 10% mustard and 4% canola off.

Rainfall was light, with Piapot (25 mm) the highest. Soil moisture has slipped but remains mostly adequate. Crop damage was minor, mainly from wind, grasshoppers, and bertha armyworms.
