Almost at the finish line! This week’s crop report from across Saskatchewan.
| Seeding hit 97 per cent this week, up from 93 per cent, and we are essentially at the finish line across most of the province. The east-central region is the last to close the gap at 90 per cent complete. Progress was slowed by rainfall in some areas, but that moisture is not unwelcome — cropland is 74 per cent adequate and 15 per cent surplus.
Crop development is a bit of a mixed bag. Most crops are tracking normal, but a notable portion are running behind — particularly oilseeds at 46 per cent behind schedule. The late seeding start earlier in the season is showing up here.
With seeding wrapping up, producers are shifting focus to herbicide applications and scouting for insects and disease. The crop is in the ground — now we watch it grow. |
