Crop report — harvest is picking up

| Harvest hit 11 per cent this week, which is still well behind the five year average of 25 per cent. That said, crops are turning and later seeded fields are expected to start coming off very soon. A warm, relatively dry week helped advance maturity across most of the province.
Moisture remains short in a lot of areas with 37 per cent of cropland rated short and 10 per cent very short. Pulse crops are making good progress with lentils at 48 per cent and field peas at 44 per cent harvested. Winter cereals are moving along well too.
If the weather cooperates, harvest should pick up quickly in the coming weeks.
