The agricultural landscape continues to evolve, and as we head into 2025, these key trends are shaping the industry. Based on recent data from 2023 and 2024, several significant shifts in crop production are emerging, indicating strong opportunities for both farm buyers and sellers.

1. Lentils Take the Lead

  • Production has surged 39% from 1,514.6K to 2,112.4K tonnes, with red lentils experiencing the most significant growth, signaling continued strong global demand.

2. Peas on the Rise

  • Total production has increased 21% to 1,533.1K tonnes, with yellow peas leading at 1,170.5K tonnes and green peas showing stable growth at 249.0K tonnes, ensuring a steady export market.

3. The Chickpea Boom

  • Production has nearly doubled from 123.7K to 242.8K tonnes, largely driven by a sharp rise in Kabuli chickpea demand, making it one of the fastest-growing high-value crops.

4. Mustard Crops Hold Steady

  • Production remains consistent at 136.1K tonnes, with yellow mustard leading at 65.5K tonnes, maintaining its role as a reliable and stable cash crop

5. Specialty Crops: Canary Seed, Fall Rye, and Faba Beans Gain Popularity

  • Canary seed production has jumped 77% to 180.4K tonnes, while Fall Rye and Faba Beans have also seen significant increases, presenting strong niche-market expansion opportunities.
