Seeding is done – but the rain won’t quit.

Seeding is essentially wrapped up at 99 per cent and attention has shifted to spraying, haying, and monitoring for insects and disease. The problem this week is not drought — it is the opposite. Most of the province received significant rainfall, leaving some fields saturated and spraying operations delayed.

Moisture is not a concern right now with 77 per cent of cropland rated adequate and 20 per cent surplus. Crop development is tracking mostly normal, though a notable portion remains behind — oilseeds in particular at 45 per cent behind schedule.

One important note: if you have unseeded acres due to excess moisture, the deadline to submit an Unseeded Acreage claim with SCIC is today, June 25. Do not miss it. Call 1-888-935-0000 or visit the SCIC website for details.

Producers are hoping for a drier stretch ahead to get spraying done and let the crop catch up.
