Seeding Trouble in North East Saskatchewan
Seeding in Saskatchewan is massively delayed — one of the latest starts I have ever seen. We are 52 per cent seeded provincially for the week of May 19 to 25, well behind the five-year average of 74 per cent.
The east side of the province is in the toughest spot, with east-central at 26 per cent and the northeast at 25 per cent. Fortunately their forecast is good and producers are making the most of it. Meanwhile, some areas in the southwest are actually in need of moisture.
From a yield perspective, a bumper crop is probably off the table at this point — but anything can happen in agriculture. The forecast looks good and we are hoping for the best!
If you see a farmer out there this week, give them a high five and wish them well.
