The Monette farm sale is the biggest story in Saskatchewan agriculture today. Those of you who follow my newsletters have likely noticed that I have said very little about the Monette sales. I supported a farm family purchase one of his farms earlier this year and did not think it was professional to talk about while that transaction was ongoing. I was then offered the listings but passed on the opportunity. Now that those two items are wrapped up the timing feels right to wade into the conversation.

Some of the larger question are:

• Will all of the land sell?
• What price will it sell at?
• How much of the land will sell in big blocks, and how much in smaller parcels?
• Will they sell enough for the creditors to all get paid back?
• Will the Monette farm continue to operate in SK after the sale?
• How will this sale affect farmland values, farmland lending criteria and the overall landscape of farming in SK?
• What lessons can we learn from this?
