Irrigated land in Saskatchewan

Although Statistics vary, Alberta has approximately 4.4% of its farmland irrigated with Saskatchewan being around 2%, or half as much. Irrigated land is a rare and valuable commodity in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan has an immense amount of water and we are under utilizing this resource. The provincial government took notice of this and has recently allocated 1.15 Billion dollars to improving and expanding irrigation around the Lake Diefenbaker area.

Irrigated land is worth exponentially more in Alberta than in Saskatchewan, which has brought tremendous interest from Alberta buyers interested in owning Saskatchewan irrigated land. Saskatchewan Irrigated land values have doubled in the past few years due to high interest from SK farmers, and those from outside of the province.
