Saskatchewan Irrigation Land
The irrigated farmland market is a unique market that doesn’t directly follow the grain land market. It marches to the beat of its own drum.
Although there are various irrigation project around the province, the Outlook area is the epicenter for Saskatchewan irrigation. The area has dealership support, a research farm, and more infrastructure for getting water to farmers fields than anywhere else in the province. Large SK farmers have moved into this area, AB farmers have moved in the area, and competition is strong for irrigated land in this region.
The Outlook area grows unique crops under irrigation like potatoes, seed canola, and many vegetables. These high value crops are one of the reasons for rising irrigated farmland values near Outlook.
A few facts about SK irrigated land:
-Irrigated farmland values have gone up nearly 300% in the past 3 years in the Outlook area!
-In SK 25%of Irrigated land is inside irrigation districts and 75% of irrigated land is outside of these districts.
-Between 2020 and 2023, more than 58,000 acres of irrigation were developed in Saskatchewan.
