Yesterday the provincial auditor made several recommendations to the Farm Land Security Board. In short, their lengthy analysis was that things were moving much too slow and things were falling through the cracks.

I was speaking at an APAS meeting in Regina yesterday and was on the stage when this press release came out. Farmers were visibly upset that foreigners may be buying SK land and are not being appropriately vetted by the Farm Land Security Board.
I would love to hear your feedback as I am always trying to increase my knowledge of what others are seeing out there:

How much of this do you feel is politically driven?
Do you personally know of anyone who owns SK land that does not qualify with the Farm Land Security Board regulations?
What do you think could be done to better regulate this? If anything.
Would a private company be more efficient at regulating these farm sales than the Farm Land Security Board?

I live in this the world of farmland transactions every day. I have sold approximately 700 farms and have never come across someone who has bought land who did not qualify. That being said I have a very strict prequalifying process that I take the buyer though and I turn away many who do not meet FLSB criteria.
Perhaps these buyers go elsewhere and buy through someone else? I look forward to your thoughts on this matter.
Have an amazing day!
