According to the Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey during the week covering April 12th to 18th, 2015, there were 569,500 persons employed in Saskatchewan. This is an increase of 4,900 from March 2015 and 7,700 more than the number employed in April 2014.
Agricultural employment was 41,000 persons in April 2015, up 1,300 from the March 2015 level and the same as the April 2014 agricultural employment level of 41,000. Non- agricultural employment was 528,500 persons in April 2015. This is an increase of 3,600 from the March 2015 non-agriculture employment level of 524,900 and 7,700 more than April 2014.
The Saskatchewan unemployment rate for April 2015 was 4.8 percent. This is a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the March 2015 rate of 4.9 percent but 0.9 percentage points higher than the April 2014 level of 3.9 percent.
Saskatchewan’s labour force increased by 4,200 to 598,000 persons in April 2015 from 593,800 persons in March 2015. This is 13,300 more than the April 2014 labour force of 584,700 persons.
The Saskatchewan participation rate rose 0.5 percentage points to 69.6 percent in April 2015 from 69.1 percent in March 2015. The April 2014 participation rate for Saskatchewan was 68.8 percent.
