Where are Farmland Values headed?

The truth of the matter is that nobody knows where farmland values will be tomorrow.

What do we know?
-we know that farmland values have risen at unprecedented rates for most of the past decade
-we know that there is less supply of farms for sale than in past years (supply on MLS has risen 30% in the last two months so this is starting to change)
-we know that demand for farmland remains strong
-we know that interest rates are higher than they have been in a very long time
-we know that grain prices have dropped substantially in the past while
-we know that weather continues to be a key factor with many areas of the province being drier than normal in the past few years

The mid-year FCC Report stated that SK farmland values went up 11.4% in the first 6 months of 2023! That number is surprisingly strong knowing that this came in the face of adversity on many fronts.

What do you think farmland values will do in the FCC Report for the second half of 2023? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I was interviewed by Global TV about farmland values and interest rates Monday morning.
